I'm frank to confess that I have no idea how to review this book, and I will also say that, to my mind, a number of reviewers and even the publishers themselves have given away key elements of the plot that will diminish the enjoyment of the book for anyone unfortunate enough to have read their comments. Hole has been drinking and trying to deal with what happened in Sydney, and he’s also angry about the rape of his sister, when his boss Bjarne Møller scrapes him off a barstool and puts him on the next plane to Bangkok. In fact we have to wait until Chapter 18 to get a real sense as to Harry's inclusion in the story. At his most fluent, the narrative takes on a dreamlike quality as Hole rushes through the investigation blurring fact and feeling. Corrections. Police is #10 in Nesbø's wonderful Harry Hole series, and by golly, it's a winner. She is also not a good judge of character, chooses men who are hard, cold, violent and needy. Very, very, very disappointing follow-up to Nesbo's Phantom, a far superior book, even with the ridiculous passages from the rat's POV.

… Creepier than ever before, this Harry Hole novel has quite a horror feel to it – the killer takes a woman and leaves behind a snowman. I know I am a sucker for a Harry Hole book but this one has to be the best yet.
Another Harry Hole story. Rarely give out 5 stars but this is a no brainer. This is such a hard book to review because even the smallest detail about the content - the way the story unfolds (which can be very persuasive in a review) - runs the risk of spoiling what is an absolute cracker of an addition to the Harry Hole canon. And that was Harry Hole's final thought.
